English tailoring is a mark of good taste and elegance the world over, carrying a reputation for fine craftsmanship, attention to detail and classic style. It is an approach that underscores much of Baird’s work which is embodied by the ownership of its own manufacturing unit - a made-to-measure factory in Yorkshire, the heart of British tailoring.

A business in its own right, working with many of the UK’s leading tailors and retailers, it also acts as a research and development resource allowing the whole group the opportunity to develop new blocks, better constructions, and brings greater quality control to the business.

The made-to-measure programme works in three distinct ways. The first is through Baird’s own companies, Alexandre Savile Row and the visiting tailor business, Addison & Steele — acquired in late 2005 and adding a new dynamism to the tailoring business.

The second is by acting as an in-house service for retailers across the UK, providing a selection of blocks and cloth bunches to independent stores and retailers such as Austin Reed to then sell onto their customers.

And the third is to work closely with designers and retailers, creating signature blocks and adding custom details. It is an approach that ensures our partners can develop a signature look and deliver style and quality to their clients.
